A high protein diet is a diet with higher levels of protein above dietary needs. The protein intake involves either meat, eggs, dairy, fish, or other animal products, plant based proteins or supplements. This type of diet is usually prescribed for people in convalescence, athletes, bodybuilders or those with protein deficiencies. The protein is used to provide valuable amino acids, as well as protein, like L-carnitine, and is also an energy source. Note: There are some medical risks involved in very high protein diets, and the subject should be carefully researched before undertaking these types of diet. |
