IT consultants tend to be specialists. This is their main selling point, and they need to inform their potential clients of their specialties.
IT includes some particularly demanding skill sets, and some of the skills are quite incomprehensible to those outside the IT field.
Keep it simple.
When writing for small to medium sized businesses, write your letter based on the normal business IT systems you expect to deal with. Do NOT include anything at all which sounds like it's meant for a big business. (To smaller businesses, that just sounds expensive.) Tell your clients in plain language: Your areas of expertise.Spell out what you can do for them. Use common software, system, and server names. Your availability (24 hour service, etc.) |
This example is a letter made for small medium sized businesses which operate small IT systems and related in house networks. They don't want to employ a whole IT section, just have someone reliable on standby for when things need to be done.
