Example of Octave

An octave is a series of 8 consecutive notes in a musical scale including the original note and its corresponding note in the higher register. As you can see, the octave runs from C to the next C. The octave is used as a reference to show the relationship between notes. Conversationally, an octave is a reference to degree of expression or change of position.

Examples of Octave:

C Major scale octave is C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C.
Conversational: I think we should raise the standard of this conversation a few hundred octaves.
As he got more upset, his voice went up at least an octave.
