Shareware was a form of software marketing used to promote products on a term trial basis. Users would use the products for a given period, after which they would expire. In many cases software was marketed in large packages of multiple games software. This form of marketing began in the late mid 1990s, but its use declined progressively. Low grade software and consumer irritation with poor quality products effectively put an end to its use. Some shareware software remains available as downloads on the net. In the mainstream online market it's been largely replaced with better quality demonstration software. |
