Chronological Resume

A resume based on a chronological order, detailing work experience. These resumes are in reverse order, with the most recent job first, and the previous second, etc. Chronological resumes are the commonest form of basic resume.

The usual format of a chronological resume is:

  • Name
  • Objectives
  • Skills
  • Work history
  • Education
  • Other interests
  • References entry

Education references relate to providing information about qualifications. Note that dates of qualifications are required to be shown:

Education:

XYZ College of Business
1234 Somewhere Street Anywhere
Bachelor of Business (Hons) 2009
Major: Sales

A typical work history entry is formatted like this:

Salesperson DEFG Motors (12 March 2009 to present)

  • Used vehicle sales
  • Customer inquiries
  • Administration duties
  • Accounts duties

These resumes are quite flexible. They may be adapted to show various aspects of work history in relation to the jobs for which one applies. For example, a job with specific essential criteria can be targeted with a chronological resume, showing the duties performed in previous or current jobs.

Each entry can be expanded to relate to job criteria, covering each element of the position requirements, as follows:

Accounts duties:

  • Bank reconciliation
  • Client Cash books
  • Client ledgers
  • Client invoices
