A synopsis, unlike a summary, which is designed to be brief, can also be a scaled down version of a text or other information. In formal and business writing, it"s a structured format, designed to be functional as a knowledge base to the reader or listener. To be useful, a synopsis must contain enough information to operate as a version of its source materials.
