Examples of Speeches

A speech is a formal, impromptu or semi-formal address to a group of people on a specific subject defined by the speaker. Speeches can be structured according to a plan or a line of speech notes ordered as a structure. Some speakers use a 'lecture mode' in which time is allotted for interaction with the audience, others deliver a traditional speech which is effectively a monologue. Speech techniques are often taught formally including studies of oratory. The most effective speeches are based on a series of clear statements and phrases, like Churchill's 'Their finest hour' and Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.
