Slang is a derivative of common usage in any language, and is closely related to jargon. A slang word is usually a term used to abbreviate a reference to a subject, or as a commonly understood reference. Many slang words are semi-sarcastic in usage, or have a basis in forms of expression used as humor. Slang is often reviled as usage, but in many ways is often more efficient and less verbose than 'proper' usage. Some foreign words enter languages as slang, and become common usage. |
