Example of Jitter

A jitter is literally a repetitive, uncontrolled movement like a nervous twitch. The expression 'jitters' means nervous, jumpy, or unsettled. The word is often used to describe erratic movement of this type. As an expression 'jitter' is dated, but is used as a variant on 'spasmodic' 'staccato' and similar words. In the 1940s there was a dance called the 'jitterbug'.

Examples of Jitter:

She really had the jitters after that near miss in the traffic.
The cups and saucers literally jittered their way off the table during the earthquake.
'Seems to be very jittery for a person who knows nothing about the situation, wouldn't you say?'
