Example of Hydrolysis

Hydrolysis is a chemical reaction of water during a chemical bonding. There are actually two chemical actions involved in hydrolysis: A molecule is split in two by interaction with water. One part of the broken down molecule receives a hydrogen ion (H+) from the water molecule. The other part receives a hydroxyl addition (H-). This process is common in industrial production and in biological processes.

Examples of Hydrolysis:

Soap manufacturing- Hydrolysis is used as a formative process to produce the alkaline base for interaction with fats to produce soap.
Biological- Hydrolysis of ATP to release 'edited' versions of ATP for enzyme production.

Image Example of Hydrolysis:

Sucrose. The glycoside bond is represented by the central oxygen atom, which holds the two monosaccharide units together.
