Belated condolence letter

I had to write just as soon as I heard about this. Ron and I recently returned on Friday after being down in Mexico for several weeks. We were both deeply saddened when we learned that George had passed away while we were gone.

Please accept our belated condolences; we wish we could have been with you during your time of need. Please know that we will miss him very much and will be available if you should require assistance of any kind or even an ear to talk to.
