Yes. The traditional Inuit dwelling is the ultimate green building. The igloo is made of local material. The building material is renewable and, when a building is no longer needed, the material reverts to a natural state.
As simple as this answer may seem it is not as impractical as one might thing. People had taken this idea a bit further by building ice structures to serve as hotels in extremely cold climates. Not only are the buildings made of ice but so is some of the furniture. Some of these structures have been in use for several years.
These ice structures, including their building, operation and ultimate disposal, have minimal impact on the environment. |
