Mcdonaldization refers to the corporatization of a subject topic. The expression is derived from the US fast food chain McDonalds, once the major target of anti-corporate activists and dietary campaigners. The term has now taken on a life of its own, and has been shortened to 'Mc', which is now an accepted prefix to any reference to corporate misdoings. Ironically, McDonalds itself has long since changed many of the policies which were the basis of the original expression.
