Example of Tariff

A tariff is a charge imposed by governments on imported goods. Tariffs are basically a form of revenue,but often also used to regulate trade and in some cases is a form of protectionism, making importing and exporting goods prohibitive commercially.The imposition of tariffs includes the right to prohibit entry into a trading area or country until these charges are paid. Tariffs also form part of trading policies for most countries, and are often sources of disputes between nations regarding trading rights. In Europe, tariff evasion is one of the primary revenue earning means for organized crime and corrupt officials.
