An invoice is basically a bill. The invoice forms part of the accounts of a business, as a debit balanced by payment, with the receipt as the corresponding credit. Invoices are usually sent as bills for particular goods or services, or as regular instruments for payment of ongoing accounts. Invoices are the primary instruments of billing, and have de facto status as a statement of accounts.
